Areas of Specialization

Dr. Kumar’s research focus is the broad area of computational mechanics, Finite Element Analysis (FEA), additive manufacturing, geometric modeling and design optimization. Specific topics of research within this area are:

  1. Immersed Boundary Finite Element method: Analysis and simulation using exact geometry immersed in a uniform background mesh.
  2. Multi-physics analysis: Structural, Thermal, Electro- and Magnetostatics, Structural Dynamics.
  3. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning applied to material models
  4. Structural and Design optimization, Topology Optimization
  5. Additive Manufacturing: Electro-photographic Layered Manufacturing
  6. Geometric and Solid Modeling
